Well known for golf, we pass through St Andrews following the Fife Coastal Route south.
Day 12 Fife Coastal Route Leaving Perth we followed the main roads east to Dundee then headed south over the Tay Road Bridge following the Fife Coastal Route. This route follows the coast passing through St Andrews and many smaller villages. ... We stopped overnight at Kingsbarns village a few miles south of St Andrews, this location was a harbour built for shipping coal and potatoes. Today it is very popular with surfers and dog walkers with its sweeping beaches and crashing waves. We had a peaceful nights rest and were treated to glorious sunshine and coastal views in the morning. The Fife Coastal Route followed the coastline passing through some beautiful villages and fantastic scenery. Once again, why use the motorways when you can experience this and when you stop for the night your room with a view is guaranteed. We continued on our journey along the Fife Coastal Route on our way to Edinburgh where we will stop for a couple of nights. See more
Day 11 Perth Today was spent exploring Perth and a quick meet up with family members, we had a relaxing and enjoyable ramble around Perth.... Our journey will continue along the Fife Coastal Route on our way to Edinburgh where we will stop for a couple of nights.
Day 10 The Snow Roads Today we continued our route south but not following the coast, we were heading for Perth and chose to follow the Snow Roads. This is a 90 mile route through the Cairngorms National park passing Braemar, Ballater and Tomintoul on our way to Perth. The route reveals some stunning scenery and has the highest public road in Britain, the Cairnwell Pass is a mountain pass on the A93 road between Glenshee and Braemar.... Along the way we stopped at the Culloden battlefield, the site of the Jacobite Rising in 1745, from here we continued to the Cainrngorms National park. Thankfully there was no snow on the ground and we were able to amble our way along admiring the unfolding landscape as we progressed. Reaching Perth we found our campsite and following a ramble around Perth we settled in for a rest. Our journey will continue along the Fife Coastal Route on our way to Edinburgh.
Day 9 The East Coast Following a good rest and with a fully stocked van today we will be heading south following the east coast. Our first stop was John o' Groats, we couldn't miss the opportunity to visit such an icon location. With a cluster of craft shops (all closed) a ferry to Ronaldsay, a small harbour and information boards there is not much else here. Naturally there is the iconic white signpost detailing your location and mileage to other locations. There was a cafe ...Continue reading
A short section of road, with spectacular landscape and really enjoyable to drive.
This is through the residential areas before we got to the campsite. We just followed the sat nav and wished that we hadn't.
A typical section of road rising and falling with the undulating coastal landscape.
Not an ordinary carpark and the exit was as dramatic as the castle.
An iconic location and on the way as we continue the NC500 heading south on the east coast.
Come on girls, you could at least cross the road when there isn't any traffic.
Look how wide this is, this should have an escort.
The landscape is dramatically different to the west coast. Lots of grass and expansive views.
