A Vancouver Island highway is being blocked by the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation At issue is logging company Western Forest Products' use of the road to extract timber, for which the nation says it receives inadequate compensation. The continued practices of colonial forces of pillaging the last of our ancient temperate rainforests without meaningful consent and respect for the environment must stop now. No longer can we stand by and allow this to continue. #WorthMoreStan...ding #savefairycreek #rainforestflyingsquad See more

LANDSLIDE WARNING Caution: the road just below House Cone, at the sharp drop-off along Walbran Main into the Central Walbran is now increasingly covered with r...ock from a landslide that is not being cleared and is at risk of getting a lot worse. At the moment smaller vehicles can drive by it, but it is not advised as if it gets worse, people can be stranded in the valley. This is the only access into Walbran Central and is not safe, until further notice. Slide coordinates: N 488.665 864 w 124.55 8737 Thank you Rainforest Flying Squad mobile unit for this info!

Fairy Creek Blockade 16.10.2020

BREAKING Over the past couple weeks we have observed dozens of logging trucks loaded with some of the worlds largest Western Red Cedar and Douglas Fir, these trees are up to 10 feet thick and represent some of the last valley bottom old growth forest on Vancouver Island. Today our squad was meet with a police presence due to covid restrictions and reports of police escorting old growth logging trucks.... Our blockade at Fairy Creek remains under COVID 19 lockdown but we will not wait to take action for these forests. We are currently organizing to stop the active logging of the last 1% of valley bottom old growth forests in the region surrounding the Carmanah Walbran Provincial Park. We are ready to mobilize but are short on people, so if you are willing to dedicate significant energy and be on the ground to blockade these forests several days a week send us a message. We are hoping to prevent any more trees from falling so we need to act fast. If you can't be mobilizing with us in person please donate to our official Go Fund Me. River camp remains closed to visitors, but that doesn't mean we won't continue to act to save our last ancient forests! https://gf.me/u/yzt3h2 #savefairycreek #WorthMoreStanding #rainforestflyingsquad
